Sultana’s Fashions recently launched in 2021, and aims to dress the modern working mother who embraces the values of elegance and modesty. Dr. Shuaa Basalom, launched Sultana after finding it challenging to find the right modern, modest outfit. As a first-generation immigrant to Canada from the Middle East, Dr. Shuaa seeks to bridge the gap of access to modest clothing for women in the West. Dr. Shuaa, a medical geneticist, piqued her interest in fashion and business during the pandemic, which led her to a explore a creative path alongside her medical profession. Being a mother of three boys, the many facets of life demand that clothing is modest not only for the office, but also at the park with the kids, or out for dinner with colleagues. Thus, Sultana’s Fashion was founded, empowering women to dream big and push further while dressing the part. Here are 3 Sultana looks I styled! LOOK 1 : 3-PIECE BROWN SUIT (styled 4 ways)

This 3-piece suit stunned me with its versatility, comfort, and style. I would wear this look styled professionally for work at the office or more casually to meet a client for a business lunch. The three pieces include a top with plateau shoulders for a strong statement, wide-leg palazzo pants fit for a boss and a matching long belt. In Style 1, I wore the set with two layered hijabs - a printed brown and cream chiffon tied over a solid olive green chiffon. In Style 2, I wore it only with the olive scarf, and you can see how I creatively wrapped the long belt around one shoulder as well as my waist! In Style 3, I removed the belt for a relaxed look, tied the olive scarf behind my neck and featured another Sultana piece, the Ginger Topcoat , placed gracefully on my shoulders. Style 4 the belt made a return, this time tied at the waist and long down the side of my body, and the printed hijab wrapped classically around the neck and shoulders.

LOOK 2 : ANIMAL PRINT DRESS

Repeat after me: “I…am not…afraid…of wearing… ANIMAL PRINT!” This print is one of those that, when worn all over the body, can be intimidating for some, and can easily become tacky when styled the wrong way. But when styled right - it’s bold, elegant, and full of personality. That’s exactly how I felt in the Sultana animal print dress. The dress is chiffon and features carefully-placed, fine pleating throughout, which is both flattering to the body and fits modestly at the same time. The lantern sleeves and high waistline are my two of my favorite features. It paired beautifully with their Ginger Topcoat as well, which helps to break up the print and is an elegant piece for long layering.

LOOK 3: MAGENTA ZIP-UP

I’m all for a pop of color in the fall, and this magenta zip-up came in quite handy as a light layer and a breath of fresh air amongst all the browns and greens of the season. The zip-up can be worn opened or zip closed, and depending on what you wear underneath, this piece can easily be worn year-round. For Autumn, I paired it with a pashmina skirt I thrifted along with brown riding boots, a black turtleneck, and a champagne saddlebag which topped off the look with a bit of shine.
